David Weekley New Construction Final Walkthrough in Meridiana

A lot of buyers never get to see what really happens at the very end of a new construction purchase.

This David Weekley home in Meridiana is closing this week, and I’ve been involved with it from the sales office all the way through final inspection and walkthrough. This post documents the final stage of the process — the part where most buyer questions come up.

What Happens at the Final Walkthrough

The final walkthrough isn’t about nitpicking a home. It’s about slowing things down and confirming what’s been completed before signing the closing paperwork.

At this stage, buyers typically review:

  • Items noted on the inspection report
  • Builder punch list items
  • Final finishes and mechanical systems
  • Any remaining questions before closing

In this case, I met directly with the construction manager to go over the inspection report since my clients couldn’t be onsite.

Why This Stage Matters for New Construction Buyers

New construction buyers often assume everything is complete because the home looks finished. In reality, this is the point where clarity matters most.

This stage helps buyers:

  • Understand what’s been addressed
  • Know what’s still being finalized
  • Move forward with confidence instead of assumptions

This is especially important for buyers relocating to the Houston area who can’t always be present during every step of the build.

Attic Access and Final Checks

During the final walkthrough, I also accessed the attic — something most buyers never see during model tours.

While attic access isn’t about looking for problems, it does help buyers understand how the home was constructed and what systems are in place.

Documenting the Full Build Process

This home is part of a full build series where I documented different stages of construction from early build through final walkthrough.

Seeing the entire process helps buyers understand what happens behind the scenes and why having guidance through each phase can make the experience smoother.

Thinking About Buying New Construction?

If you’re considering a new construction home — whether in Meridiana or elsewhere — understanding the process ahead of time helps you make better decisions when it’s time to move forward.
