Highland Homes Houston Review – What Buyers Should Know
Thinking About Building With Highland Home in Houston?
Before you visit model homes or sign a contract with a builder, there are a few things you should know.
I’m James Potenza, a Houston new construction Realtor, and I regularly walk homes during framing and pre-drywall stages so buyers can compare builders before making one of the biggest purchases of their lives.
One of the reasons buyers ask me about Highland Homes is because I’m actually out there. I’ve toured model homes, walked homes during framing, and filmed construction progress in communities across the Houston area, including Meridiana, Midline, Legacy by Hillwood, Katy, Cypress, League City, and beyond. Building a Highland home with my clients from start to finish, I am always impressed and my clients are too. Highland quick move-ins (already built inventory homes)….
My clients still love them to this day. If they are relocating and can’t even make it into town, I sent them a video of their home, as if they were with me, and they fell in love with their new home when they arrived…moving truck in the driveway.
Those real-world observations help buyers compare builders and communities before they commit to a contract. AND….my clients LOVE their Highland Homes. I keep hearing this after over 20 years.
What I Like About Highland Homes
Over the years I’ve spent a lot of time walking Highland Homes during construction, touring inventory homes, and comparing them to other builders throughout the Houston area. One of the reasons buyers ask me about Highland Homes is because I have seen their homes at multiple stages of construction rather than only inside model homes.
In this video I share my observations, what stands out to me about Highland Homes, and why many buyers place them on their short list when comparing builders. You need to see these homes in the framing stage. It really helps understand home they build their home, any builder.
Why Buyers Consider Highland Homes
Highland Homes is one of the most recognizable builders in Texas and has built a strong reputation among new construction buyers.
Many buyers are attracted to:
- Floor plan design
- Architectural detail
- Customer service
- Energy efficiency
- Build quality
- Included features
- Community selection
For many buyers, Highland Homes falls into the sweet spot between value, quality, and livability. And honestly, I have been helping my clients build or buy inventory home with Highland for over 20 years…...Highland continues to provide my clients with a superior product, excellent value price point (biggest bang for your buck), and their customer relations and warranty process are the best I have seen in the industry. ALL of my past clients and really good friends, still to this day, are very satisfied they bought a Highland! You could be my next happy client 🙂
Highland Homes In Meridiana
Meridiana remains one of the most popular master-planned communities south of Houston, and Highland Homes continues to be one of the builders many buyers consider when looking in the area. Whether you’re comparing floor plans, inventory homes, or building from the ground up, Meridiana offers a variety of options.

What I Like About Highland Homes
One of the biggest advantages of walking homes during construction is seeing what most buyers never get to see.
Over the years, a few things have consistently stood out to me about Highland Homes:
Floor Plans That Live Well
Highland does an excellent job designing homes that function well for everyday life.
Strong Attention To Detail
From framing layouts to finish work, I often notice a level of consistency that buyers appreciate.
Communication During Construction
Many of my buyers report positive experiences throughout the construction process.
Inventory Home Opportunities
Highland frequently offers inventory and quick move-in homes, which can be a major advantage for relocation buyers.
Why I Walk Homes Before Sheetrock
Most buyers only see model homes.
I prefer helping buyers see homes before sheetrock.
At this stage we can evaluate:
- Framing
- Plumbing
- Electrical systems
- HVAC installation
- Structural layout
- Overall workmanship
This provides a much clearer picture of how a home is being built than a finished model home alone.
Highland Homes Communities I Cover
I regularly create videos and content from communities where Highland Homes builds.
Highland Homes In Meridiana
Meridiana remains one of the most popular master-planned communities south of Houston.
Buyers can find a variety of Highland floor plans, inventory homes, and new construction opportunities.
Highland Homes In Midline
Midline is one of the most exciting new communities in the Webster area.
Its location near NASA, Clear Lake, and major employment centers makes it especially attractive to relocation buyers.
Midline is quickly becoming one of the most interesting new construction communities near Webster, Clear Lake, and NASA. Highland Homes offers several floor plans in the community, and I’ve spent time walking homes during construction so buyers can see what happens before drywall goes up.

Highland Homes In Legacy
Legacy continues to attract buyers looking for new construction homes in League City. Highland Homes is one of the builders many buyers ask me about, especially those looking for a balance of design, livability, and construction quality.

Highland Homes vs Other Builders
One question I hear regularly is:
“Is Highland Homes the best builder?”
The truth is every buyer has different priorities.
The better question is:
“Which builder is the best fit for me?”
When comparing builders I encourage buyers to evaluate:
- Construction quality
- Floor plans
- Included features
- Lot options
- Incentives
- Inventory availability
- Warranty experience
- Long-term value
Inventory Homes vs Building a Highland home From Scratch in Legacy
Many buyers assume they must build from the ground up.
That’s not always true.
Inventory homes can provide:
- Faster move-in dates
- Builder incentives
- Reduced uncertainty
- Simplified decision making
For relocation buyers especially, inventory homes can often be the better choice.
Should You Get A Third-Party Inspection?
I ALLWAYS recommend buyers consider third-party inspections during construction and before closing. Even with inventory quick move-in homes.
A professional inspection can provide additional peace of mind and help identify issues before move-in. We present the inspection report to the construction manager and make sure they fix everything.
I always attend the inspections and meet with your construction manager to go over the inspection report.
Before You Visit Highland Homes Model Homes
